Oaklands Academy was established in 1981. Our syllabus is designed to cater for students who wish to dance as a career or just for pleasure. We hold a bi-annual show, an annual recital with presentation of awards, participate in operatic and musical theatre shows, professional ballet company productions and local community events.
Many students have received scholarship nominations, become Junior and Senior Associates with the Royal Ballet School, Urdang Academy, Hammond School and Elmhurst School. Students have also appeared in professional and amateur pantomime productions at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, Birmingham Hippodrome, The Garrick Theatre and The Prince of Wales Theatre and many others. Many participate in TV and film work, amateur dramatic organisations and competition work. Students have progressed to gain teaching qualifications with the IDTA, university degree courses, work in the United Kingdom and abroad and develop their own theatre schools, becoming choreographers, adjudicators and IDTA examiners. Examinations are held throughout the year with the International Dance Teachers Association and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art both recognised by the Council for Dance Education and Training. |
